Phalaropes depart from our usual ideas of sex roles in birds. This male is not as brightly coloured as the female, and she is polyandrous. The male tends the next while she finds another mate.
A male Red Phalarope, who is the sole parent to incubate the eggs at its nest, trying to lead me away from it.
